Abia State Governor, Okezia Ikpeazu has contracted Coronavirus according to his Commissioner for Information, John Kalu.
The Abia State Governor was said to have gone into Isolation before he was tested Positive of coronavirus.
On Saturday, 30th May, 2020, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu volunteered his sample for COVID-19 test and subsequently directed members of the state Executive Council (EXCO) and those of the inter ministerial committee on COVID-19 to submit themselves for the same test.
On Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020, the result of Governor Ikpeazu’s test returned negative,”the commissioner said.
The Governor, on the 4th June, 2020, submitted another sample at NCDC laboratory for confirmation and the result returned positive.
”As a result, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has gone into isolation, as required by relevant NCDC protocols, and he is being managed by a competent team of medical practitioners with a view to nursing him back to good health”, he added.
Ikpeazu has instructed his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, to act on his behalf till resumes work.
The Governor also urged his cabinet members to submit themselves for test and isolation before confirming their status, adding that the state has quality resources to manage patients back to good health.
How Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Contracted Coronavirus
A member of his cabinet was reportedly tested positive of coronavirus last week, this prompted the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to isolate himself according COVID-19 NCDC requirement.
After his isolation, he submitted his blood sample for test and was tested negative.
Later in the week, the Governor started developing symptoms of coronavirus, this pushed him to submit himself again and his blood sample was taken again, the result turned out to be positive.
All his family members are currently isolating themselves for proper test according to NCDC protocols.
