The National and State Assemble Election Petition sitting in Uyo had yesterday, 10th September ruled out the petition by the Senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sen. Godswill Akpabio.
The Tribunals whose verdict favours the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Christopher Ekpeyong gave that the evidence tendered by the Petitioner isn’t enough to nullify a peacefully conducted election.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the APC Youth Caucus, Akwa Ibom State Chapter Obong Iniobong John, has issued a statement bordering on challenging the judgement of the Election Tribunals.
He wrote, in a statement he titled ” MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE AGAINST OUR PARTY AND CANDIDATES. ”
“We never expected any better or fairer judgement from the Justice Akanbi led National and State House of Assembly election petition tribunal. Two out of the three members of the panel had been heavily compromised to deliver skewed judgments against our party and candidates. Senator Godswill Akpabio’s case was particularly targeted,” Iniobong said.
He however thanked the boldness and steadfastness of one of the Judges who declared that, the tribunals nullifies the February election.
“We must not fail to salute the member of the panel who refused to be compromised and delivered a fair judgement in favour of Senator Godswill Akpabio. History and posterity would be kind to him.”
“It was a case of judgement for sale. But one thing is certain. The skewed judgments delivered by the Justices Akanbi and Jennifer Ijohor led tribunals will be upturned by the Appeal Court.”
“I therefore urge our teeming party members to remain calm, Nobody should be perturbed. It’s a temporary setback.” He added.
Although Sen. Godswill Akpabio has not issued any statement in regards to this, but the Youth Causus of the Party has vowed to head to the Appeal Court to challenge the outcome.
