How the End of Estimated Bill in Nigeria Will Affect Nigerians
Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has given the details about the service base tariff which is supposed to reduced the problems of estimated bill which President Buhari has put an end to it.
Service base tariff is a billing system attached to people with no electricity meter and are using estimated billing to pay pay for their electricity usage.
This is to reassure Nigerians that there will be increase in electricity tariff.
NERC has release a press release to educate Nigerian on what service base tariff will stand for after the directives of the President.
The commission stated that after the Presidential order has been passed, customers will be given their rights on electricity meters by the Distribution Companies (DisCos). adding that customers will be given a platform where they can report service failure.
The commission also stated that the tariff review will ensure that the prices given by DisCos will be fair and affordable for the customers and also be enough for the company to make their profits.
According to reports, the new policy is to protect the poor people and make the rich pay more for the light but this may make DisCos give power supply to only the people that can pay for the electricity.

“This is the business decision that DisCos must make as a private company. because before now, if you visit areas where the rich people are living, you will find out that they’re light, this this what they called, WILLING BUYER, WILLING SELLER policy. Although this guarantees al,ost 24-hour electricity for people who can pay more for the light.” Adebulu told Information Drillers.
He also express dissatisfaction on the fact that there is no proper regulations on ground to enforce DisCos to obey the new laws.

- People with no meter must not face any increment in electricity price than those with meter in the same area.
