A fresh battle for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial seat has begun as Appeal Court sitting in Calabar, on Saturday ordered for a rerun of election in Essien Udim LG of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, citing irregularities.
Information reaching us says the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sen. Godswill Akpabio, has challenged the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Mike Igini to oversee the rerun but under the watch of the Director of State Services and the State’s Police Commissioner be present.
Sen. Akpabio’s call for the present of the Director of DSS and the state’s commissioner of Police is to enable the area have a free,fair and peaceful elections to avoid the repeat of what happened the in the last election.
Sen. Godswill Akpabio who is the current minister of Niger Delta Affairs lost in the last election to the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Engr, Christopher Ekpeyong.
Meanwhile, the Appeal Court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued to the candidate of PDP, Sen. Ekpeyong asking INEC to conduct a fresh election in 90 days.
Mr Igini who had earlier boasted that no court can nullify any election conducted by him has since been on a run and has refused the offer of conducting the rerun as ordered by the Appeal Court.
