The Educational System in Nigeria is Degrading
The educational system in Nigeria is becoming impaired instead of upgrading to meet with the current dispensation. I’ll through in tips that which endangers the schools system in Nigeria and also exposes the menace and pitfalls to the Nigeria’s Education.
Starting from the pre-primary and primary schools in Nigeria, the financing aspect of the basic primary education is so poor to the point were by parent who can afford sending their children to the private school do so ,and those who can’t afford the private school end up allowing their children to be in public school(Government own school) which the Government has deliberately refused to finance and restructure the public schools. Thus, allowing them to rot in their dilapidated state.
Looking at the financing aspect of the Educational sector,we have been told that Education is the bed rock of a rapid growing Economy, we have also been told that the future of Nigeria is in the hands of the youths yet they’ve been neglected by the Government, denying them quality education.
Base on this, how does the future of this ones look like? The annual budget a little percentage given to the Educational Sector, it turn to affect all the auxiliary unit in the Educational Sector.
Educational budget should be higher than any other budget, if its truly the bed rock of our economy, many times students who graduate from the secondary school, seeking for admission into the higher institutions cries out the challenges of limited vacancy in Nigeria institutions which do end up admitting limited numbers and leaving thousands not admitted despite the monetary other effort put into it, It is quite sympathetic as every year jamb will have over a million candidate seeking to write the exams to get into the University, Jamb will sell out millions of forms with the hope of admitting limited numbers of persons, why selling out millions of forms when you only want to admit 10,000 students? I know they will say some student will fail the exams, but was the school only for the brilliant ones?
Nigerian Universities is also not helping matters, instead of striving to improve their level of academic status, they’re busy extorting and molesting students. Government is completely giving deaf ears to these alarming issues, thus the menace in this sector is getting worst on daily bases.
Every other schools round the world is upgrading their academic standard to meet up with the present day, but our case is very different, we’re busy increasing tuition fees and other schools fees so as to disable some students from continuing in school, Million of students are graduating from schools annually yet no creation of new jobs, the rate of unemployment is growing, the state of livelihood is extremely getting worst after spending years studying in schools.
Moreso, Jamb will never considered all the challenges face by Nigerian students by trying to look for another alternative of admitting at least the majority of these folks into the Nigerian Universities. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board will keep introducing a fresh sales of form for the young secondary schools graduate who seeks admission into the Nigerian Universities ,with high increase in the price of this forms, students will bear the burden of sort for money to purchase them. Apart from this perils, students who get admission will still face with numerous challenges such as strike action ,increase in school fee, poor hostel and classroom infrastructure etc. Government should work towards restructuring the Educational sector which is the bed rock of our Economy.
